QBiotics was established in July 2004 to develop the drug EBC-46 that was discovered by parent company EcoBiotics using their EcoLogicTM discovery process. QBiotics Limited is the sole owner of the unencumbered intellectual property relating to EBC-46.
The parent company of QBiotics, EcoBiotics, is a discovery and early development company founded by Dr Victoria Gordon and Dr Paul Redell in 2000. EcoBiotics has discovered a range of potential drugs derived from the tropical rainforests of Far North Queensland.
EBC-46 is the most advanced of these discoveries and QBiotics’ sole focus is to develop EBC-46 through to commercialisation and/or exit (sale to a large pharmaceutical company) for the global human and veterinary markets.
Over the past six years, QBiotics has been funded by a mix of investor support and has received over $1 million in government grants which has been invested in the development of EBC-46.
In March 2010, QBiotics and EBC-46 successfully attracted $565,000 in Queensland Government innovation funding. The funds will be used to complete a study into the ’Mode of Action’ of the drug in preparation for Phase I for Human Clinical Trials. Dr Glen Boyle, from the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) will be carrying out the study on behalf of QBiotics.
